About Landscape.fyi
Know before you go.
Shoot with confidence.
A weather intelligence tool built by a landscape photographer, for landscape photographers.

Darak Chen
Engineer · Product Designer · Landscape Photographer
Darak is based in Bellevue, Washington, in the heart of the Pacific Northwest—a region known for beautiful landscapes, dramatic skies, and weather that can change its mind by the hour. Living and shooting in the PNW taught him that chasing great light is rarely just luck. It takes timing, patience, and a lot less guessing.
That idea led him to create Landscape.fyi: a tool that turns complex data—visibility, atmospheric transparency, cloud conditions, and timing—into something photographers can actually use in the real world.
Four frames per roll. Make them count.
Darak has a soft spot for 120 medium format film, especially the beautifully impractical magic of 6×17 panoramic images. Ask him how many 6×17 shots you get from one roll of 120 film and he’ll probably smile and say: four. Which is exactly why conditions matter. When every frame counts, you want every bit of information you can get before heading out.

The Shen-Hao TFC-617
One of his favorite cameras for the 6×17 format is the Shen-Hao TFC-617. And yes, if that camera sounds familiar, you probably know another photographer who loves it too: Nick Carver. Darak deeply admires Nick’s work and shares the same appreciation for slow, intentional photography—the kind that values patience, planning, and being in the right place when the light finally shows up.
That mindset is at the heart of Landscape.fyi: helping photographers spend less time guessing, and more time showing up prepared.
